Learn about: Composting Plastic Toilet

Composting Plastic Toilet from Dunster House

I tell you a lot about our Log CabinsClimbing FramesSummerhousesGarden Offices and other Garden Buildings but it is rare that I share some of our humanitarian products – that has got to change. Our Composting Plastic Toilet is, for lack of a better word, revolutionary. We work closely with leading charity Oxfam to try and help as much as we can (explained further in this blog post) to help in any way we can and we are a large part of a life changing pee power project (read more about it here). In addition to this life changing research we sell the Composting Plastic Toilet which not only lets you go to the toilet in privacy but the excrement can be used as fertilisers – a must have for places where access like allotments. In fact, we’ve sold them for exactly that use.

In order to help you learn more about the Composting Plastic Toilet, we thought we would tell you about the fantastic features it has.

Low Maintenance
Being placed in dirty and dusty environments, such as allotments, festivals, campsites or holiday homes amongst other places, it would be safe to assume that users will have muddy boots and clothing. The benefit of using WPC over timber is that it is easier to clean and does not need annual treatment against rot and fungal decay. The interior of the toilet has been designed with the same expertise as the exterior with black rubber used on the floor making cleaning the floor easy after a day of use.

Solar Powered
The Eco Toilet can stand independent from outside water supplies due to the solar panel on the roof. This solar panel feeds both an electric water pump and powers a 12V light so users feel more comfortable using the toilet after dark.

The walls and roof of the Eco Toilet are made out of WPC making the toilet resistant to extreme temperatures either high above or below zero, high winds and UV exposure increasing the buildings longevity and endurance. In place of our normal timber designs, WPC is lighter making transportation to rural areas easier.

Privacy is paramount whilst you are in the bathroom, especially if being used by members of the public at allotments, festivals, campsites or holiday homes which is why our Eco Toilet is securable internally via a knob slide flush bolt with vacant/engaged notifier and externally via a ring handled gate latch to ensure the door does not swing open when unlocked.

Urine Diversity System
Our Urine Diversity System (UDS) turns your solid waste into compost which contains valuable nutrients for agricultural purposes. The solid waste falls into a container positioned underneath the toilet seat allowing you to easily transport and spread the fertilizer without having to touch it by hand.

Avoid unpleasant odours
The odour you associate with portable toilets is caused by a mixture of bacteria when solid and liquid waste combines in one bowl. Our Eco Toilets separates the urine and solid waste immediately, preventing the process of fermentation and reducing the unpleasant odours commonly associated with portable toilets.
