In many developing countries the provision of decent sanitation and sewage systems is struggling to meet the targets set by the UN’s Millennium Development Goals of halving the population living without fundamental sanitation by 2015.
There are approximately 2.6 Billion people without access to decent sanitation. Approximately 2.2 million deaths every year are a a result of unhygienic sanitation related diseases and illness.
People living without basic sanitation are often deprived of their privacy and dignity whilst being left vulnerable to contaminated water supplies and the spread of disease.
The need for new sanitation solutions with proper collection and disposal practices is greater than ever in order to meet these targets.
On World Toilet Day – 19 November 2012 – we launched our new design for a UDS (urine diversion system).
Urine Diversion System
Our Dropfada Urine Diversion System presents a hygienic sanitary solution for any dehydration or composting toilets where solid and liquid wastes are kept apart.
Dehydrating toilets provide the opportunity to compost and recycle waste as an organic fertilizer or as a fuel. Urine is high in nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus, which is a valuable fertilizer supplement whilst growing plants. .
By keeping the waste separated with our Urine Diversion System the process of fermentation is prevented. Therefore, it reduces unpleasant odours in your toilet.
With the UDS insert we provide a urine waste pipe for the front section. It hygienically distributes the urine into a container kept outside. Or into a soak-away facility in the ground outside of the building.
We also provide the option of a gentleman’s Urinal. You can fit it in the interior of any outhouse toilet or building. Thus reduces the possibility of indiscriminate and uncontrolled urination.
